Common Questions About Learning Polish

Is Polish a difficult language to learn?

You can learn Polish the traditional “hard” way with out-of-date techniques, or you can learn the Polish language the intuitive, “easy” way with Pimsleur. Our innovative language learning platform bucks tradition and gets you learning Polish like a child, so you’ll focus on oral (speaking) and aural (listening) proficiencies. Instead of using textbooks and boring grammar exercises to help you learn Polish, we tap into your natural curiosity so you’ll actually enjoy your Polish lessons – Pimsleur makes learning immersive, collaborative, and fun!

How long does it take to learn Polish language?

The answer is entirely up to you, but beginning with a Pimsleur Premium or All Access subscription is a great start! Our goal is to get you speaking Polish conversationally. And it doesn’t have to take endless months to do it, thanks to our user-friendly courses. Most new language learning involves a long learning curve…but not with us! After your first Polish course, you should be able to speak basic sentences, words, and phrases. From that first lesson on, your confidence will grow as you learn to speak Polish. Just bring a decent amount of effort and 30 minutes per day, and we’ll ensure you learn Polish much faster than you think.

What are the main challenges when learning Polish?

Basic rules and grammar between Polish and English are distinctively different. For example, something as basic as articles (“a,” “the,” etc.) aren’t used in Polish. Nouns can be placed before attributive adjectives, and verb usage can be somewhat challenging with perfective and imperfective aspects, which can be challenging as you progress through your lessons. No worries with Pimsleur leading the way – our courses are created to make learning interesting and exciting, so you’ll quickly turn any obstacles into learning openings.

How important is pronunciation in learning Polish?

Very important. To speak Polish conversationally, you have to know a language’s particular pace, cadence, and pronunciation – and that last element might be the most critical! Polish has eight vowels (six oral, two nasal) and about 30 consonants. That’s obviously more than English, and the variation in pronunciation is complex and sophisticated in some instances. Consonant clusters, a staple of many Eastern European languages, is also prevalent in Polish, which requires a deft hand (tongue, actually) to pronounce properly. As part of our Polish lessons, the Voice Coach with AI pronunciation feedback tool ensures you nail down Polish phonology in no time.

Is the Polish language course suitable for complete beginners?

If you’d rate your Polish experience as zero, zip, or zilch, that’s just what we love to hear! You can learn to speak Polish with Pimsleur from the true starting blocks. Novices excel with our courses, and you go from square one to speaking Polish proficiently before you know it. And thanks to our super convenient app, you can learn Polish anywhere, at any time – Pimsleur expands your educational opportunities without life getting in the way.
